Robert H. Schwengel, MD, FACC
Dr. Robert Schwengel has been in the practice of General and Invasive Cardiology with Cardiovascular Associates of Rhode Island since 1993. He obtained his Cardiovascular Medicine training at the University of Maryland Medical Systems in Baltimore, MD, after completing medical school and Internal Medicine residency at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is an alumnus of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, graduating cum laude with a BA in Biology and Chemistry. He maintains board certification in cardiovascular diseases, is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University.
Dr. Schwengel sees patients primarily in our Middletown/Newport, RI office. He has medical staff appointments at Newport Hospital, Miriam Hospital, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, and Landmark Medical Center. He has been a Medical Staff Officer at Newport Hospital since 2001, serving as the medical staff Credentials Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and currently as the Medical Staff President. Dr. Schwengel has also served as the Medical Director of the Newport Hospital Echocardiographic Laboratory. He has special interests in coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and valvular heart disease.
Dr. Schwengel is originally from Iowa, grew up in the Washington, DC area, and currently resides in Barrington, RI with his wife and son, maintaining an active interest in tennis and a high handicap in golf. He and his family are active in multiple charitable efforts, with a special interest in the local YMCA organization.
